PsyAsia International

After 3 years in the Middle East, he received a double scholarship award to undertake his PhD in Psychology at the University of Queensland, Australia. Following this, he moved to Asia where he set up PsyAsia International in Hong Kong and Singapore. Under his leadership, PsyAsia International is a multi-award-winning international organisation, especially known for its ethical, client-centred passion for client success and dedication to the competent practice of psychometric testing in Asia. As a result, we have worked with almost all Singapore Government departments, including the Prime Minister’s office, as well as the Government of Trinidad & Tobago, and multiple education-related departments of the HKSAR Government of the PRC.

Philippines neurological mission

Having co-founded a charitable mission in the Philippines, and worked with people there suffering from Neurological disorders, Dr Tyler developed an interest in Neurology and Neuropsychology, so returned to Australia to undertake a 2-year Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology.

Clinical Neuropsychology Master’s and supervised practice

During this second Master’s degree, Dr Tyler was never awarded anything less than a distinction in taught course assessed units. His clinical neuropsychology practice was initially supervised at the Macquarie University Psychology Clinic and then at one of the world’s leading teaching hospitals, Liverpool Hospital in NSW. As one of Australia’s most multi-cultural hospitals, Dr Tyler assessed a large number of patients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and engaged in many interpreter-assisted neuropsychological assessments. During his practice at Liverpool, Dr Tyler rotated through Aged Care, Neurology and Brain Injury specialties, and was noted for his ability to establish and maintain rapport with even the most difficult patients, his awareness of the most up-to-date knowledge and practice in the field, as well as his dedication to ensuring patients understand their results and how they apply to their everyday life. He continues to hold the belief that accessible and meaningful feedback is crucial, alongside workable rehabilitation strategies where appropriate. He completed his supervised transition to Clinical Neuropsychology with a Paediatric rotation at the famous Westmead Children’s Hospital.

Current Clinical Neuropsychology practice in Hong Kong and beyond

Since his time in Australia, Dr Tyler has practiced Clinical Neuropsychology primarily in Asia, from our bases in Hong Kong and Singapore, and especially during the pandemic, was involved in many online neuropsychological assessments (teleneuropsychological assessment). As a consequence, he works with clients globally, using our secure, modern online assessment systems, as well as offering Hong Kong Clinic based assessments and working with multi-disciplinary medical teams in Asia.

Additional training in advanced Clinical Neuroimaging

Although a knowledge of neuroanatomy and brain imaging is required of a neuropsychologist, and so part of any training in neuropsychology, Dr Tyler has a special interest in this field. As a result, he has undertaken an additional 5 months of training in Clinical Neuroimaging at the University of Oxford (Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging / CPD Certified Course) and has also attended workshops and certificate courses in Nuclear Medicine and Neurodegeneration offered by The reason for this is to be able to offer advanced rehabilitation advice and plans to patients based not only on current Neuropsychological status, but also an understanding of structural and functional issues in the brain and what can and cannot be achieved over time.

Organisational Psychology & Clinical Neuropsychology

With his background in both Clinical Neuropsychology and Organisational Psychology, Dr Tyler is rare in his ability to combine the two disciplines and assist those who are looking to return to work following brain trauma, or those who are undergoing neurological issues and need assistance with compensatory or rehabilitation interventions for work. In addition to his current clinical caseload, Dr Tyler continues to train and consult in Organisational Psychology and Psychometrics, teaches and assesses for the BPS Level 1 & 2 RQTU Psychometric Testing Qualifications using innovative, cutting-edge learning strategies, and is the driving force behind PsyAsia International’s development of Online Training in Neuropsychology.
