Nature Neuroscience, Published online: 21 October 2026; doi:10.1038/s41593-026-02469-9SIK3 kinase controls synaptic NMDA receptor recruitment by phosphorylating GluN1 at a single site. Loss or inhibition of SIK3 markedly reduces synaptic NMDARs, while a gain-of-function mutation increases GluN1 phosphorylation and NMDAR levels.
